Cultivated from and cultivating on the land of muddy waters, Eric Plamondon has spend the last two decades building relationships between art, audience and space. As a a valued arts administrator, Eric has been director of the artist run centre La Maison des artistes visuels francophones, Executive Director of the Exchange Districts cultural hub Artspace and is the current programming director of the centre culturel franco-manitobain. In each case Eric has innovated the artistic offerings of these spaces, but also those of the hosting communities. Art and human nature crosses human drawn borders with curiosity, humility and courage. So does Eric. A multi-disciplinary artist, Eric's own art practice includes; cinema/films, theatre, visual arts, and literary arts. An evolving capacity and understanding of each of these disciplines elevates his art, as cross pollination can also bloom into an artistic signature. In Eric's case his signature is defined by negative and positive spaces. It's also defined by placing intent in all the curated elements, so that the audience is guiding to an experience that can stem from the niche, but transcends to the universal. An approach that culminates into an offering of le terroir. Art having something to say, is a central motivator, possibly because Eric is a triple minority: bilingual (french and English), queer (gay) and indigenous (Red River Métis). Communities that have all to often been muted, assimilated, erased.
ERIC PLAMONDON
Eric Plamondon est un artiste plongé dans le monde des arts du Manitoba en tant qu’administrateur, comédien de scène, écrivain, réalisateur, créateur et bien plus encore. Il cherche constamment de nouvelles opportunités lui permettant de développer ses habiletés d’artiste afin de réaliser divers projets d’art. Eric croit que le croisement et la collaboration entre disciplines représentent un avantage à la scène artistique actuelle à Winnipeg. De plus, en tant qu’artiste francophone, métis et homosexuel, il prête sa voix à ces communautés minoritaires afin que leurs réalités, leurs préoccupations et leurs défis soient connus d’un plus grand public.
On le qualifierais d'artiste autodidacte. Tout de même Eric a obtenu un baccalauréat de l'Université d'Ottawa et une Maîtrise de Dalhousie Univeristy. De plus il s'engage régulièrement à des ateliers, des formations, de professionnels et de ses pairs. Tout autant qu'Eric offre lui même des ateliers a des jeunes, a ses paires, car on apprend en se partageant avec l'un et l'autre. Tout pour dire, être artiste autodidacte, c'est admettre que se former entant qu'artiste professionnel c'est un cheminement continuel qui a plusieurs chantier d'apprentissage.
